Designer toys emerged from late-1990s Hong Kong and Tokyo art-toy scenes (Michael Lau, Medicom Bearbrick), professionalised through the 2010s by KAWS, Daniel Arsham, and Takashi Murakami.
Pop Mart's scale, Lego Art-grade limited sets, and the institutional acceptance of KAWS in fine art rooms have made the category serious without making it less cyclical.

- Concentrate in artists with auction-house validation rather than secondary speculation alone.
