Emotional Attachment
An affective bond through which an object can acquire personal meaning beyond its practical function or exchange price.
Definition
Emotional attachment to an object may develop through repeated use, memory, relationships, milestones, care, identity, or personal effort. Attachment varies widely and does not make an object objectively valuable or emotionally irreplaceable for everyone.
Origin
Object attachment is studied across consumer research, material culture, environmental psychology, design, and related fields.
Usage in luxury
A repaired, inherited, gifted, or long-used object can matter because of its biography rather than its market category. Expensive objects do not automatically create stronger attachment.
